Ardora Living Lamp NYCxDesign Week
Lamp showcased at NYCx Design SHINE exhibition. May 2026
Rather than relying on a conventional light bulb, the work uses living algae as a source of illumination, exploring alternative forms of light and the possibilities of living organisms as luminous collaborators, shifting my understanding of illumination from a technological product to a living process .
The vase of the lamp was created using a sargassum bioplastic recipe developed over a couple of weeks. The sargassum was collected from a local beach, then processed following protocols to remove metal ions, including steaming and acid washes.
